Status: Completed October 2005
Genre: Narrative/Experimental | Comedy/Drama | Short (19 min)
Budget: $2.18½

"Bitterness and passion... An online cult classic..." - Oklahoma Eagle | "Caustic, ironic... The cheapest movie ever made..." - Boca Raton News | "Hardcore indeed... The most shocking movie..." - The Independent | "Deeply disturbing..." - Tulsa World | For more news, click here.

Tagline: Deeply obsessed with masturbation and violence, an Asian American male drifter seeks an escape from his mundane existence within the confines of American societal norms.

About the Production: No script, Wong Kar-wai style. Shot in one day with a crew of one for a total budget of $2.18½. Throughout the improvisational process, we were particularly inspired and influenced by the following directors and their specific works: Wong Kar-Wai (Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love), Gus Van Sant (Elephant) whose film we derived our title from, David Lynch (The Elephant Man) whose film we derived our main character's name from, and Hsiao-hsien Hou (Flowers of Shanghai).

to be (2002) - Official Selection of the Stanford Film Festival 2003

Status: Completed September 2002
Genre: Experimental | Drama | Short (13 min)
Budget: $75

Tagline: Everyone's a racist.

Synopsis: To be a minority in America? First-time, self-taught filmmakers present a no-holds-barred lashing out on stereotypes propagated by American mass entertainment throughout history. Symbolism abounds in this experimental social change piece, designed with the intent of being an educational engine for provoking discussion (without providing any easy answers) and challenging preconceptions about Asians, other races, and race in general.

man. (2003) - Official Selection of the Stanford Film Festival 2004

a RAW film

Status: Completed May 2003 (Shooting on April 30, 2003)
Genre: Experimental | Drama | Short (3 min)
Budget: $50

Tagline: A meditation on man's place in the world and the duality of man. Although a human is never directly seen, human presence is felt as the worlds of the natural and unnatural collide.

Anecdote: What are the chances of a film like this being made? By chance, I found one day a crippled bird struggling to get across the street. It broke my heart to see it suffer, and I started thinking of ways to help it. Lo and behold, I found a crumpled McDonald's cup nearby in the parking lot and used it to scoop up the bird and put it in the shade. All the while I had grabbed and turned on my camera since I love to tape nature, especially birds. Then, I started getting ideas for a short film, based on the two contrasting images of the crippled bird and the crumpled cup, with man in between. Conceived and shot in under one hour with zero planning, man. became an improvised and introspective tale on nature vs. man vs. man-made.
